Mie is a prefecture famous for its rich cultural connection to the sea. Visit Kumano on the coast for a taste of life on the ocean. Take a boat out to a quiet cove with local fishers. Learn the ropes from experts and haul in your own catch of the day. Head back to dry land for a look in Mie’s art world. Make your own gyotaku print art with the help of experienced locals. While usually these fish themed patterns are printed on traditional paper, you’ll be able to use anything from an eco-bag to a t-shirt to print on if you’d like. After making your own souvenir, it’s time to eat! Enjoy a barbeque meal made from the fish you helped catch out at sea earlier in the day. Experience all elements of Mie’s culture on this ocean adventure.

  • There is no public transportation to get to the port, so a rental car is recommended

  • If the weather doesn’t allow for this experience, a full refund will be provided

  • Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty just in case– you’ll be fishing and handling ink as well!

  • The number of fish tend to decrease in the off-season, so the catch will be reduced in winter

  • The host will contact you to confirm the size of the rental items. Please note that if we are unable to contact you, your request might be cancelled
